    Job Purpose


    The Senior Price Optimization Analyst is responsible for recommending and executing strategic pricing for assigned categories, channels and sales types utilizing price modeling tools and price optimization software.  The Senior Price Optimization Analyst will work closely with the Manager of Pricing and Director of Pricing in the creation of performance reporting tools and the development and preparation of pricing analysis.  This position will test and validate the underlying science of price optimization software, helping to tune configurations as appropriate.  This position will also provide guidance, training and project leadership for Pricing Analysts.


    The Senior Price Optimization Analyst will also take a lead role in executing special projects that the Manager of Pricing or Director of Pricing initiate.


    • Analyzes sales and margin performance, interprets customer and competitor behavior and provides guidance and recommendations for strategic pricing at the SKU, category, and department level across assigned categories, channels and sales types. Leverages competitive information and market basket analysis to formulate recommendations.  Includes forecasts of changes in sales, profits, and unit demand with pricing recommendations.  Executes price changes driven through Pricing Team analysis. 
    • Develops and maintains analysis for use in monitoring and reviewing SKU, category, department and Buyer-level financial results, identifying trends and formulating future plans and forecasts. Performs analysis and creates category pricing models to better understand customer price sensitivity and the impact of pricing changes to assigned categories, channels and sales types.  Communicates analysis with recommendations to management and Buying Teams.  Assists with strategic pricing initiatives by providing elasticity analysis and pricing recommendations.
    • Creates pricing reporting tools to facilitate preparation and distribution of pricing reporting as required on a periodic basis. Designs, develops and prepares pricing analysis for use in reviewing financial results, identifying trends, and formulating future plans and forecasts.  Creates and maintains Pricing reporting which can be used throughout Merchandising. 
    • Acts as lead "science" member of the Pricing Team. In conjunction with the Pricing Manager, tests and validates underlying science and calculations of price optimization software in partnership with the software vendor.  Tunes configurations for optimal alignment between customer behavior and Company strategy.  Proposes software improvements, coordinates communication of issues to software vendor and monitors resolution of issues.
    • Delivers guidance, training and project leadership to Pricing Analysts. Performs special projects for the Pricing Team and advises Pricing Analysts on their special projects. 
    • Provides support and assistance in the design, development and installation of new IT systems impacting the Pricing Team.
    • Provides statistical analysis for special projects where needed in Merchandising, Finance and other areas.


    Education and Experience



    • 2-4 years in a retail environment, with 1-3 years of pricing management or optimization experience strongly preferred; any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered. 


    • Bachelor's degree required. MBA or other advanced degree in a related field (Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Business, Marketing, Economics, or the equivalent) strongly preferred.   


    • Advanced analytical and PC skills, including Excel and Power Point required
    • Experience with Revionics or other price optimization tools desired, but not required.
    • Ability to build financial and statistical models, analyze data and translate analysis into specific, targeted action to drive results required
    • Strong problem-solving skills required
    • Proficiency with database design and management, and in working with complex and large volumes of data preferred
    • Able to work in a fast-paced and changing environment required
    • Strong organizational and communication (written and oral) skills required
    • Able to work independently and with little supervision required
    • Excellent ability to manage to deadlines required
    • Able to positively handle conflict required
