  • Overview

    The Regional Transportation Manager is repsonsible for managing, developing and directing all movement of all transportation activities from distribution centers and mixing centers to all TSC stores within the assigned region. This includes the consistent implementation and execution of of company operating intitatives, policies and practices of optimizing freight movements from all TSC origins and destinations. This position is also responsible for all customer service communication, problem resolution and schedule development with store and district management.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Develops and manages daily truck routing for store deliveries.
    • Assists in budget development and financial review processes.
    • Develops and coordinates replenishment and delivery schedules from the DC to ensure on time delivery to stores within the DC region; maintain a balanced DC replenishment and delivery schedule for stores, DC and carriers.
    • Provides direction to DC shipping department to ensure trailers are loaded/billed timely, trailer cube utilization is maximized and trailer release schedules are maintained to ensure on time delivery performance.
    • Manages the contract carrier trailer pools at the DC’s and other locations (feed cross docks) to ensure a continued flow of equipment for loading and unloading.
    • Leads the development of carrier capacity availability to maintain sufficient truck and driver capacities along with seasonal activities to ensure on time service to the stores.
    • Establishes new store delivery development with to set deliveries, replenishment and delivery days. Coordinates carrier lane rates through SSC and is the point of communications contact for all new store merchandise flow.
    • Manages all customer service activities with servicing stores including but not limited to; loader feed-back survey and quality intitatives, shortage/damage problems, carrier/driver issues, inventory research, store scheduling etc.
    • Single point of contact for the development of all routing for emergency shipments from DC to stores. Manages the coordination of delivery scheduling, communications with stores and carriers to ensure merchandise is delivered with 24 hours of purchase order receipt at the DC for all emergency orders
    • Manage the DC gate labor and team member shift assignments.
    • Manage DC yard movement and driver activities.
    • Assists in data gathering for analytical studies
    • Laison with Store Operations to maximize visibility of shipments inbound to stores, and maximize disruptions and expense to store labor
    • Assists carriers with issues in TMS system resulting from update problems/errors
    • May perform other duties as assigned *

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience)

    • High school education required; 8 years of logistics or transportation experience; any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, logistics, or transportation is preferred.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Training/Systems

    • Ability and proficiency in Microsoft Office software
    • Displays strong communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills and capable of building strong working relationships
    • Ability to self-motivate, work with a sense of urgency, and to prioritize tasks

    • Ability to positively handle conflict
    • Capable of working in a cross-functional environment
    • Able to travel up to 25%
