    Job Purpose


    The Inbound Transportation Planner is responsible for planning daily workflow of inbound purchase orders, tendering and tracking shipments of inbound freight to TSC stores and distribution centers. In addition, this position works closely with Inventory Management and vendors on any transportation needs or questions, with the goal of ensuring the most timely and cost-effective pickup, transit and delivery.


    • Determines and selects optimum transportation mode (Truckload, LTL or Intermodal) and tenders shipment to the appropriate carrier
    • Trains shippers on use of the IBM Sterling TMS site to notify TSC of freight ready to be shipped.
    • Optimizes store-direct shipments for maximum truckload efficiency, communicates results to shippers to ensure correct loading
    • Serves as the geographic “point person” among TSC Inventory Management staff, freight carriers, and shippers for consistent communication channels
    • Investigates and resolves issues related to missing or incorrect information, late pickups and/or deliveries, misroutes and unplanned accessorial charges
    • Prepares/distributes carrier performance reports
    • Optimizes multiple less than truckload pickups into full truckload shipments to maximize capacity, expense and service.
    • Maintains working relationships with carriers, shippers and TSC team members for effective coordination of all transportation service efforts.
    • Participates in special projects including analysis and summary of data with recommendations for future transportation policies and procedures
    • May perform other duties as assigned.


    Education:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, logistics, or transportation is preferred.


    Experience:  3 years of logistics or transportation experience.
