    Overall Job Summary

     

    This position is initially responsible for leading the integration of the Accounting, Finance and Tax functions of Petsense into the Tractor Supply environment. This transition will include relocating the existing Petsense financial functions in Scottsdale, AZ to the Tractor Supply Store Support Center in Brentwood, TN.  This role will ultimately be responsible for the day-to-day Accounting and Finance functions of the Petsense operation.

    Responsibilities

    1. Transition:

    • Lead the day-to-day efforts of transitioning the accounting, finance and tax functions of Petsense to Brentwood, TN.
    • Oversee the assimilation of Petsense accounting and finance processes into the Tractor Supply processes where possible, identifying opportunities for system integration and process improvement where available.
    • Participate in streamlining systems and processes to improve quality, accuracy and timeliness of information necessary for management decision making and to support future growth.
    • Ensure development of an effective internal control environment related to controls, procedures and financial reporting.

    2. Accounting:

    • Research and analyze accounting issues to ensure the accounting practices of Petsense are in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This will include drafting accounting memos and position papers to support the accounting policies.
    • Participate in and oversee the monthly closing process, including but not limited to, the preparation or review of account reconciliations, complex models to support journal entries, and critical assumptions and judgments used to support accounting decisions.
    • Prepare and review detailed monthly variance analyses for significant accounts to verify the integrity of monthly financial results and provide recommendations for improvement.
    • Partner with key leaders to understand changes in the business and develop adequate processes to support accounting procedures.
    • Interact with Accounting and Executive leadership in explaining business trends and performance versus plan, forecast and prior year.
    • Assist in maintaining detailed internal control documentation that supports the preparation of original work and review of the accounting team’s work in accordance with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and the standards established by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). 

     

    3. Financial Analysis and Budgeting:

    • Create ad hoc financial analyses to support and recommend business decisions.
    • Assist in the development of annual budgets and monthly forecasts, analyzing financial performance, establishing goals and developing recommendations on profit, expense and cost saving opportunities.
    • Communicate how business initiatives impact financial results as well as recommend and manage initiatives to improve profitability and working capital.
    • Provide key insights on long term business trends, earnings projections, and other key financial implications.

     

    4. Other:

    • Mentor, train and develop a team of professional and clerical accounting team members.

    Qualifications

    Experience: 7+ years related experience in an accounting/finance role.  Minimum of 1 year in a leadership position required.

     

    Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.  Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.

     

    Professional Certifications: CPA designation strongly preferred.

     

    Other knowledge, skills or abilities:

    • Prior retail experience preferred.
    • Extensive knowledge of GAAP and new accounting developments.
    • Strong financial analysis experience preferred
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
    • Demonstrate strong communication, leadership, analytical and teambuilding skills.
    • Hands on experience using an enterprise reporting system (SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, etc.)

     

    Working Conditions: 

    • Normal office conditions
    • Position will require up to 50% travel between Brentwood, TN and Scottsdale, AZ during the transition phase, which is expected to last anywhere from six to eight months. Periodic travel to Scottsdale may be required after completion of the transition phase.
