    Job Purpose


    The Yard Control Coordinator ensures the safe and efficient flow of product within the outside yard of a Distribution Center. Oversee the flow of activities and vehicle transportation to maximize the space and efficiency of yard operations. Planning daily workflow of outbound purchase orders, tendering and tracking shipments of outbound freight to TSC stores and distribution centers. In addition, this position works closely with Distribution Center leadership, Carriers, Store Operations, and the Transportation Team.


    • Utilize logistics techniques to control the flow of product and vehicle transportation in and out of the yard of the Distribution Center
    • Supervise the daily activities of the security personnel that control the access in and out of the yard.
    • Supervise the daily activities of the yard drivers that move vehicles across the yard.
    • Interact with third party vendors to ensure security stations and drivers are staffed accordingly. Enforce the rules of the third party vendor contract as needed.
    • Ensure CTPAT compliance.
    • Ensure all safety policies and procedures are being followed in the yard and remedy any issues.
    • Ensure the security of the yard is up to CTPAT standards and report any breaches in security to the FM.
    • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the yard to include areas around the building. Report any issues to the FM.
    • Audit yard reports for trailer space assignment and accuracy and remedy issues in real time.
    • Initiate inclement weather response from vendors.
    • Work with the RTM and LPM with claim reconciliation due to outside vendors damaging TSC property/assets.
    • FLOW -- waste removal, provide direction, continued and improved communication, congestion relief and monitor any off-site locations.
    • Fuel tanks, proper scale operation, proper gate operation, FM and LP relationship (audit items).
    • Guard shack quality control and last line of defense.
    • Quality control of loading dock and empty trailer conditions.
    • Reconciliation of any and all yard discrepancies such as trailers in wrong locations, ensuring yard audits are accurate, trailers being checked into or out of the yard, claims, and red tag trailers.
    • Determines and selects optimum transportation mode (Truckload, LTL or intermodal) and tender shipments to the appropriate carrier.
    • Trains Customer Service Representative on use of the Transportation Management System Optimizes store-direct shipments for maximum truckload efficiency, communicates results to Distribution Center and cross dock vendors to ensure correct loading.
    • Serves as the geographic "point person" among TSC Distribution Center/Inventory Management staff and freight carriers for consistent communication channels
    • Investigates and resolves issues related to missing or incorrect information, late pickups and/or deliveries, misroutes and unplanned accessorial charges.
    • Prepares/distributes carrier performance reports.
    • Optimizes less than truckload pickups into full truckload shipments (when feasible) to maximize capacity, expense and service.
    • Maintains working relationships with carriers, Distribution Center, Store Support Center staff and TSC team members for effective coordination of all transportation service efforts.
    • Participates in special projects including analysis and summary of data with recommendations for future transportation policies and procedures.
    • May perform other duties as assigned.


    Experience:  3 to 5 years of Logistics experience in Distribution Center, Transportation, or Traffic Operations.


    Education: High School Diploma



    • Transportation Management Systems preferred
    • Ability and proficiency in Microsoft Office software
    • Strong communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to self-motivate, work with a sense of urgency, and to prioritize tasks
    • Display a detail-oriented approach to work
    • Ability to positively handle conflict
    • Capable of working in a cross-functional environment 

    Working Conditions 

    • Outside: Potentially in adverse weather conditions while in mobile unit 90%
    • Office: 10%
