    This position is responsible for establishing company standards for reliability and availability for the platforms delivering IT services to the business.  This individual will manage, grow, and inspire a small team of middleware and site reliability engineers and work collaboratively with application owners. Oversee the creation and maintenance of policies and tools for deployment, monitoring, and operations.  Provide technical oversight and expertise for troubleshooting and resolving issues in development, test, and production environments.

    Responsibilities

    1. Build and lead highly skilled enginering teams from planning through execution. Create development plans, training agendas aligned to performance goals. Perform hiring, performance evaluations and ongoing development of policies and procedures.
    2. Lead a consultive team of Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) and J2EE Middleware Engineers. Ensure that Engineers have a consistent playbook of best practices, policies, and processes to implement and evangelize while embedded for periods of time within application and infrastructure project teams.
    3. Collaborate with internal teams and leadership to design and deploy premier solutions that ensure high degrees of reliability and availability to meet business needs and objectives.
    4. Recommend equipment, new concepts and techniques to improve performance, simplify deployments, and reduce costs.
    5. Technical leadership. Own the technical output of the platform enginering team. Ensure high technical standards by instituting processes (architecture reviews, testing) and culture (engineering excellence). Review and drive long term technical direction of critical TSC platforms.
    6. Review and analyze existing operations effectiveness and efficiency, and then develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.
    7. Provide status reporting and maintain key computing metrics that will assist in problem identification and prompt issue resolution.
    8. Automate repetitive tasks related to reliability, server health and performance, first and third party integrations, and the production environment

    Qualifications

     

    Experience: 10 years related work experience in the information technology field.  6+ years of direct management experience leading teams. 5+ years of retail experience preferred. 3+ years leading a DevOPs/SRE team preferred. 3+ years leading J2EE Middleware Engineers preferred.

     

    Education:  Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.

    High Demand IT Specialized skills: 

     

    Platform knowledge: Public and Private Cloud platforms, PaaS, IaaS, J2EE Platforms (Tomcat, JBOSS, Websphere), Converged/Hyperconverged Infrastructure and Virtualization Platforms, CI/CD Pipleline Solutions, Configuration and Automation Tools (Ansible, Salt, Chef, Puppet, Terraform)

     

    Other knowledge, skills or abilities:

    • Comprehensive knowledge of PaaS and IaaS implementation and management solutions.
    • Superior negotiation and vendor management skills.
    • Ability to review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and process and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
    • Skills to develop roadmaps for relevant technologies such as PaaS, laaS, Cloud Computing, J2EE middleware, engineered and converged systems, etc.
    • Demonstrate strong problem solving, communication, organizational time management and multi-tasking skills.
    • Possess industry expertise and innovative technology experience that provides decision makers with the knowledge to act.
    • Proven experience in developing and driving technology plans and visions.
    • Detailed understanding of business continuity planning and disaster recovery.
    • Strong enterprise architecture experience either as author or support of concepts.
    • Must be able to contribute to planning, design and development of new technologies and enhancements.
